The Honourable Bill Morneau, Member of Parliament for Toronto Centre, issued the following statement after news of a tragic shooting in Orlando, Florida on June 12, 2016:
“I am deeply saddened to hear of the tragic shooting last night in Orlando, Florida. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of those killed and all those who were injured.
As Canadians, we join in mourning this tragic loss of life, and condemning these hate driven actions. We will continue to fight hate, ignorance and divisiveness with inclusiveness, understanding and compassion. This attack in no way diminishes our efforts to ensure that all individuals are safe to be themselves.
For our diverse LGBTQ2 community, and all Canadians, this shooting is as devastating as it is heartbreaking. To all those in Toronto Centre who would like to join in mourning and support for the victims and their families, I encourage you to attend the 8:00PM vigil at Barbara Hall Park this evening.”
